An Ohio PAC called?The Buckeye Firearms Association announced on July 20 that it is no longer taking donations to replace the gun George Zimmerman used to shoot Trayvon Martin. The Ohio group made news last week when it started taking donations for the gun replacement. Earlier this month, the court ruled Zimmerman could have his gun back. However, with a new civil rights investigation pending, the federal government has ordered that the gun, and other items from the trial, be held during the investigation. ?
The Buckeye Firearms Association believes that the ?government holding evidence from the trial to investigate possible civil rights violations against Trayvon Martin, is a violation of the civil rights of George Zimmerman. So they decided to raise money to buy him a new gun. The group believes ?that Zimmermans’ gun should not have been held and that the Second Amendment is under attack.
On ?its website, the group claims to have been targeted by “race-baiters and hate-mongers” who are angry that it was raising money to give George Zimmerman his gun back, and insists that its motivation is only based on the fact that the court should not hold Zimmermans’ gun. The PAC group also claims ?that Americans’ Second Amendment rights are being threatened ?by “gun grabbers” and that its job is to protect the Second Amendment. ?Apparently, a “gun grabber” is a person who supports gun control. This is an ironic phrase since it seems the Ohio PAC and most other gun-supporters who are the real “gun grabbers”.
The Real Gun Grabbers
On the Buckeye Firearms Association website you can register for an event that will help you “prepare yourself for the worst and be ready to survive a lethal force encounter.” I am inclined to say, this probably includes “grabbing” a gun. There is also a link to a law office for advice, and help for when you do “grab” your gun. There are NRA links, and discounts for permission to “grab” your gun. They also have links to safety and emergency response training for teachers and other school officials to prepare them for the next angry person who “grabs” a gun before school.
The group also expressed concern for George Zimmermans’ safety because he has received numerous death threats. Logically, he needs to be able to protect himself against angry people who grab their guns–gun grabbers. Wait! Aren’t the gun-grabbers people who support gun control? That’s what gun extremists say.
The intention of the Second Amendment is not to give every “cowboy wanna-be” a pass to swing a gun around and shoot at “threatening” people. The intention of the Second Amendment was to allow states to set up militias because there was no national standing army. We now have a national military, and each state has National Guard troops (which replaced militias). You can protect your person and your property, but it doesn’t give you the right to shoot anytime, and anywhere.
