The powers that be at Fox News are terrified. And they should be. You see, they know there’s a very good chance that Donald Trump and members of his campaign did indeed conspire with Russia to influence the 2016 election, and they’re afraid that Special Counsel Robert Mueller is in the process of proving that fact.
So, over the past few months, Fox and its paid liars (aka “hosts”) have been attacking Mueller’s integrity anytime they get a chance. On Saturday, they even began using the highly-loaded word “coup.”
Jesse Watters, just prior to an interview with Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway, told viewers that “we may have proof” the Russia probe was “weaponized to destroy [Trump’s] presidency for partisan political purposes.” Then Watters said this:
“If that’s true, we have a coup on our hands in America.”
Uh, no. No, we don’t.
Let’s consider the actual definition of the word coup:
“A sudden, violent, and illegal seizure of power from a government.”
Sudden? Mueller has been investigating the Russia matter since May.
Violent? Not a shot has been fired or a life lost.
Illegal? Mueller was duly appointed by the Deputy Attorney General, Rod Rosenstein.
Republicans love to pretend that all the blame for Russia can be laid at the feet of Mueller, but if Trump and members of his team hadn’t repeatedly had meetings and other contacts with Russians, no investigation would be necessary. If you have nothing to hide, why in the world you care if someone investigates you? Innocent people are eager to do whatever will exonerate them. Guilty people, on the other hand, have to be dragged kicking and screaming to cooperate.
