Women in the business world and political arena are now coming forward to recall instances of sexual harassment and sexual assault they have been subjected to by powerful men as part of the #MeToo movement, bringing new light to a problem that has been hidden for far too long.
Fox News host Chris Wallace spoke with former GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina about the issue, noting that President Trump is siding with Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore. To that, Fiorina remarked:
“That’s politics, isn’t it? This is all about politics and that’s why when politicians talk about this it doesn’t have a lot of credibility. This has been going on in politics for a very long time.
“Democrats try and defend their own, or Republicans tried to defend their own. It’s a little bit like George Washington warned us 200 years ago, the problem with politics and political parties is they care about winning above all else. Donald Trump cares about a vote in the Senate, no more, no less.”
When Wallace mentioned the allegations against Rep. John Conyers (D-MI) and Sen. Al Franken (D-MN), Fiorina took the opportunity to get in a dig at Fox News:
“You can’t tell me that no one knew what was going on with Roy Moore and John Conyers or Al Franken or Charlie Rose or Roger Ailes or Howard Weinstein. People knew, men knew and women knew. We all express outrage and I’ll come and people say should they step down or should they not, I think the question going forward is when are we going to stop tolerating this behavior and respecting the men who do it? Because all of these men have been respected.”
Though I rarely agree with Ms. Fiorina on anything, she’s 100 percent right on this one: We have to stop tolerating this kind of behavior, no matter who is guilty of it. As for respect, perhaps every man should ask himself this question: How would you feel if it happened to your wife, your daughter, your sister, or your mother?
