Trump Humiliates Himself During Call With Senate Democrats

Donald Trump was elected a year ago Tuesday, and in that time he has exactly ZERO legislative accomplishments. He said he would repeal and replace Obamacare. He failed. And now he’s trying to get support for his tax cut package, which would greatly reduce taxes on the very wealthy and screw everyone else.

Trump is so desperate to get his tax bill passed that he made a call from South Korea Tuesday evening to 12 Senate Democrats, urging them to support the measure, and attempting to bolster his argument by telling them:

“My accountant called me and said ‘you’re going to get killed in this bill.'”

Of course, Trump offered no proof of his assertion, and since he’s yet to release his taxes, there’s no way to verify the veracity of his specious claim. But based on what we do know about his finances, for him to say he’d “get killed” by the GOP tax legislation is clearly a lie. If nothing else, Trump would be able to pass along his estate to his family with no penalty because he’d eliminate the estate tax, which only applies to estates valued at more than $5.5 million, which is 0.2% of all the estates in this country.

NBC reports that Trump’s legislative affairs chief Marc Short and economics adviser Gary Cohn were also present for the meeting with Democratic senators when Trump called, and that the entire affair devolved into a “sparring match” over how the bill was crafted by Republicans in total secrecy.

But at least it was another opportunity for Trump to prove that he lies as often as he breathes and completely humiliate himself by alleging how much the tax bill would hurt him. Everyone who believes Trump would do anything detrimental to his own bottom line, please stand on your head and count to 5 million.
