During his press conference in the Rose Garden Monday afternoon, President Trump tried to minimize his tepid reaction to the deaths of four members of the U.S. military by claiming that his predecessors hadn’t called the families of those who perished in combat, only to be slapped down later with facts which proved what he’d said to be a blatant lie.
On CNN Tuesday morning, Retired U.S. Army Lt. General Mark Hertling made no secret of what he thought about Trump as Commander-in-Chief, telling host Chris Cuomo:
“On several occasions…the president lied and then he attempted to blame the generals for telling him what he lied about. And then the most important thing is he was making excuses for not having made contact after 12 days. All three of those things are not a good look for a commander in chief. You asked me to be your military analyst, this is the simplest thing I’ve analyzed yet. A commander, which the president is, to do the kinds of things he did yesterday — I would put it in a shameful category, to be honest with you. My colleagues and peers, both retired and active, felt the same way.”
But as we’ve repeatedly seen ever since Trump announced his candidacy, he lies about everything. He lies even when he would be better served by telling the truth. That’s because he’s a pathological liar and his default position is to be untruthful.
While Trump is fond of saying that he honors American veterans and respects members of the military, those are also lies. This is a man who avoided service in Vietnam by claiming he had bone spurs in one of his feet. Yet when asked years later which foot the spurs were in, he couldn’t answer the question. And, despite this so-called injury, Trump still participated in athletics while in college.
Donald Trump is not only a shameful, lying coward, he’s also a preening jackass. Nothing he says can be believed, so we should stop acting surprised when he proves what a worthless bag of hot air he is and always will be.
