If You Defend Trump’s Racism, Then You’re Racist Too

America’s so-called President Donald Trump is a white supremacist. He is racist. The level of toxic white privilege he exudes is disgusting. There is absolutely no excuse for a sitting commander in chief to vomit the the manner of abhorrent, vile, and divisive garbage that comes out of Trump’s ignorant mouth. Because there is no excuse for Trump’s antics, anyone who attempts to explain, minimize, or otherwise justify his actions, is just as despicable as Trump.

Unfortunately, the nature of racism is that people try to explain, minimize, and otherwise justify it. Doing so makes them feel good. In some cases it makes people feel like they’re not racist. To this end, terms like whitesplaining perfectly define the utter nonsense that is white folks (and some self-loathing brown ones) who try to apologize for Trump’s racism, as well as having supported Trump despite what has long been known about him.

Those apologies mean nothing. They’re not enough. They don’t excuse a thing.

For example, shortly after Trump’s “both sides” comments regarding Charlottesville, singer Clay Aiken tweeted:

White Aiken is totally correct about being a “f*****g dumbass,” he is completely out of pocket for thinking his apology changes the fact that he has defended Trump. He could’ve kept that to himself. It’s too late. However, for some reason, many white people who now have “buyer’s remorse” regarding their Trump vote, now want to come out and apologize for supporting Trump like their apologies are going to make Trump magically disappear from the White House.

People who have never had to experience the hurt of racism can easily pretend it doesn’t exist, minimize, and dismiss it. It’s easier to say racism doesn’t exist or say that someone as openly racist as Trump, isn’t, than to own up to the destruction racism and people like Trump cause.

Make no mistake, it’s not a bad thing that people like Clay Aiken are coming forward to acknowledge their stupidity regarding Trump. The fact that it’s not a bad thing doesn’t make it good, nor does is it enough to fix the problems that people like Trump are causing and have caused throughout history.
