If there was any remaining question about how totally ignorant President Trump is when it comes to matters of American government and the Constitution, one tweet from him on Friday evening reaffirmed our worst fears about this utterly incompetent man:
Churches in Texas should be entitled to reimbursement from FEMA Relief Funds for helping victims of Hurricane Harvey (just like others).
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 9, 2017
So churches, which are already tax exempt, should get federal funds even though they contribute nothing financially to help pay for needed services such as FEMA? That’s some bizarre logic the Orange Menace is employing just so he can shovel millions of dollars to fake Christians like Joel Osteen and Jerry Falwell Jr., two of his most ardent supporters.
It didn’t take long for residents of social media to give Trump some much-needed lessons on how our system of government works:
They should get federal tax dollars that they don't pay in to?

Trump would just give federal funds to people like Joel Osteen who laugh all the way to the bank.

Saying that tax-free churches should get reimbursed by FEMA is like saying the Red Cross should get reimbursed, instead of people donating.
— Eric Kleefeld (@EricKleefeld) September 9, 2017
Churches in Texas and everywhere else in the USA should pay taxes (just like everyone else).

Fuck off donald trump. Churches are businesses. End tax exemptions.

Huh? Tax-free charity organizations should be reimbursed by taxpayers giving to charity? I'm confused. This isn't the Trump Foundation.

And yea, Jesus submitted his expense report unto The Lord, saying "Deliver Mammon unto Me, to wash away the foul stench of these lepers."

But sick people are NOT entitled to health care, because that would just create a welfare state. SMART!

Back in the day, the primary mission of a #Christian church was to help others. Now it's enrich the pastor and elect Republicans. #howbowdah

awww did @JoelOsteen complain to you that he had to open his doors to the non-tithing masses?
