On Tuesday, President Trump is expected to announce that he will end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) executive order which currently allows children of undocumented immigrants to remain in the United States. Such a move by Trump would potentially impact as many as 800,000 young people.
Vermont Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders is already speaking out on the president’s expected move, and he’s not holding back in his criticism, posting on Twitter:
If Trump decides to end DACA, it will be one of the ugliest and cruelest decisions ever made by a president in our modern history. https://t.co/EXfRAy5azO

Taking legal protections away from 800,000 young people raised in this country is absolutely counter to what we stand for as a nation.

If Trump ends DACA, Congress must act immediately to restore it.

Congress could indeed act with legislation which would guarantee those currently protected by DACA remain in the country. Will Speaker of the House Paul Ryan and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell allow such legislation to even come to the floor of their respective chambers? That seems unlikely, but it would certainly show Trump that, as Senator John McCain (R-AZ) noted just last week, that Congress isn’t beholden to the president:
“We must respect his authority and constitutional responsibilities. We must, where we can, cooperate with him. But we are not his subordinates. We don’t answer to him. We answer to the American people.”
Senator Sanders’ comments drew reaction from supporters and opponents of DACA:

It's time for Congress to set aside all of Trump's priorities and work solely on immigration reform. America needs these children.

No matter WHAT he does, Congress must act! Why should we be held hostage by the whims of a venal racist?

That exactly why he's ending it Congress needs immigration reform he's doing those 800000 a favor by ending DACA
