Leaked Emails Show Trump Associate Bragging About Putin Helping Get ‘Our Boy’ Elected

If you were waiting for a smoking gun in the Trump-Russia investigation, you don’t need to look any further.

The New York Times reports Monday on an email sent by a close associate of President Trump–convicted fraudster Felix Sater–in 2015. The email, sent to Trump’s personal attorney, Michael Cohen, bragged that a large real-estate deal in Russia could help get Trump elected president:

The deal being proposed was one to build a Trump Tower in Moscow, a proposal which eventually fell through.

Another email shows Sater promising that the Russian leader was receptive to helping Trump win the election because he felt he could “negotiate” with him:

Keep in mind that this latest revelation comes atop other facts which point to Russia seeking to help the Trump campaign and the Trump team being eager to receive that assistance. Those include:

  • Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and campaign manager Paul Manafort  meeting with a Russian attorney and former Russian intelligence official at Trump Tower in New York to discuss information which might be damaging to Hillary Clinton.
  • Numerous members of the Trump campaign–including Attorney General Jeff Sessions–meeting with the Russian ambassador to the United States on more than one occasion. Sessions later lied about this during his confirmation hearings.

No doubt this will all be of great interest to Special Counsel Robert Mueller as he continues his investigation into what role Russia may have played in the 2016 race for the White House. It could also help frame a case for impeachment when the investigation is complete.

While Trump has repeatedly denied he has business interests in Russia or connections to Putin, it seems that all signs point to actual coordination and collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials who were eager to see a compromised Republican nominee elected.

It should be interesting to see how Trump responds to this latest revelation.
