Though he seems marginally secure from impeachment for the time being, another few weeks like the ones he’s recently had (think Charlottesville and that deranged rally in Phoenix), and President Trump could be on the verge of facing impeachment. Should the Democrats take control of Congress in the 2018 midterm election, Trump is very likely toast.
But should impeachment proceedings begin, longtime Trump friend and confidant Roger Stone is warning that a “civil war” could start across the country.
Speaking to TMZ, Stone commented:
“The people who are calling for impeachment didn’t vote for him. They need to get over it. They lost.
“Try to impeach him, just try it. You will have a spasm of violence in this country and insurrection like you’ve never seen.”
When the reporter interviewing Stone asked if he really thought that would happen, Stone replied:
“No question. Both sides are heavily armed, my friend.”
Stone then added that any politician who votes to impeach Trump “would be endangering their own life.”
To that, the reporter queried:
“So you think there’d be some sort of civil war?”
Without hesitation, Stone responded:
“I do. That’s what I think will happen.”
It’s likely that Stone is floating this fearful scenario because he wants to try and scare off any Republicans who may be leaning toward giving Trump the boot, but he forgets a few things when he tries to stir up dark visions of a violent future:
- Impeachment is called for in the Constitution and perfectly legal.
- Trump’s poll numbers are sinking by the minute.
- The government has the police and military at their disposal should anyone want to start trouble.
So while Stone and other die-hard Trumpkins are conjuring up bloody futures, their insurrection would last about 24-48 hours and then promptly be put down. And their “warriors” would either be dead or in prison. Donald Trump is not nearly as popular as Roger Stone believes.
