Trump Reaches His 1,000th Lie Since Becoming President (VIDEO)

Though you can’t count on him for much, there are at least two things you can depend on when it comes to President Donald Trump. The first is that he’s likely to do something incredibly embarrassing (like gaze directly at the sun) within the course of any given day. The second is that you can expect much of what he says to be either misleading or a downright lie.

The Washington Post has done its best to document every lie, misleading statement, or misdirection the president has uttered or written since taking office in January. The numbers are, sadly, impressive, especially this week when it was discovered that Donald Trump has told more than 1,000 lies since his inauguration.

Trump actually made his one-thousandth lie or misleading statement earlier this month, around August 4 or August 5, the Post reports. But because Trump lies so often, it was difficult to keep up, making the declaration of his one-thousandth lie come almost two weeks later than when it actually occurred.

It was only during the president’s vacation that the Post was able to catch up, they report.

It’s not clear which statement was his one-thousandth lie, but it likely had to do with the economy: Trump made a deluge of tweets around that time that included topics involving positive job creation numbers, an improving stock market, and the building of new factories in Ohio and Pennsylvania — each statement of which were either misleading or a lie.

Because the Post is finally caught up with Trump’s lies, he’s actually told even more than 1,000 — the unofficial tally, as of press time, sits at 1,057.

For the month of August, it seems that Trump is lying at a faster rate than usual, even though much of his time during this month was spent on vacation. In fact, if he continues at the pace begun at lie number 1,000, he will reach his 2,000th lie by January 10, 2018, ten days before the first anniversary of his inauguration.

And what a fitting tribute that would be: 2,000 lies and misleading statements in 12 months. Trump truly is the “liar in chief.”

Here’s a video examining Trump’s relationship with the media, from PBS News Hour.
