As we know by now, Donald Trump’s attempt to claim “many sides” were responsible for this weekend’s violence in Charlottesville, Virginia has gone over like a lead balloon. It became clear that tactic didn’t work when one of those “sides,” the white supremacists, actually applauded Trump’s initial stance. But any doubt that it was a fail should have been eliminated when one of the racists reportedly got the bright idea to drive his car through a crowd of counterprotesters–injuring 19 people and killing one, 32-year-old Heather Heyer.
Well, on Sunday, we got yet more proof that Trump’s attempt to hold “many sides” responsible is the definition of tone-deafness. The racist knuckledraggers at The Daily Stormer got the bright idea to trash Heyer.
Daily Stormer founder Andrew Anglin suggested that we shouldn’t shed any tears for Heyer, whom he dismissed as “a 32-year-old overweight slob with no children.” It went downhill from there, and quickly.
Anglin suggested that “most people are glad” Heyer is gone, since a woman at her age who has yet to have children is “the definition of uselessness.” As far as Anglin was concerned, Heyer had failed to “do her most basic duty–her only duty, in fact–and reproduce.” As a result, she was a “gross creature” and “black hole vortex of money and energy” who would likely take up “hundreds of thousands of dollars” over the years. If that wasn’t enough, Anglin suggested that one reason Heyer didn’t have children yet was that she probably had at least one abortion “and was thus herself a child murderer.”
Besides not having children, Heyer supposedly committed another sin in Anglin’s eyes–“protesting White men” and pushing “an anti-White agenda” on social media. As “evidence,” he cited Heyer’s call for the Fort Worth Police Department to fire a cop who arrested a woman and her daughter after the woman called 911 to report a man for assaulting her son. Charges against the two women were later dropped, and the cop was suspended.
Anglin then preceded to fat-shame her, saying that if she hadn’t been overweight, she might have been able to get out of the way of Fields’ car. Indeed, Anglin suggests that Fields did a public service by killing “Heather fatty fat,” given the “astronomical” costs of the food she would likely be eating.
Not surprisingly, Anglin has been kicked up, down, and sideways on Twitter.

Even by the admittedly low standards of white nationalists, this outrageous attack on a grieving family is beyond the pale. It only proves just how small these bottom-feeders really are. It also proves that Trump’s initial statement is the very definition of false equivalency. “Many sides” don’t publicly trash the dead in this way. Only one side does.
Daily Stormer has somehow managed to slink back onto Twitter. They have two semi-official feeds–@Dailystormers and @rudhum. Report them both to Twitter–it’ll make it that much harder for this bilge to get traction. Also, be sure to donate to the GoFundMe fund set up for Heyer’s family.
