Saturday at the G20 meeting in Hamburg, President Trump excused himself from a meeting of world leaders so he could have one-on-one conversations with allies to discuss various issues.
As the president met privately, he sent his daughter, Ivanka, to sit in for him at the larger meeting, and it didn’t take long for Twitter to light up with criticism of the move:
Ivanka Trump, unelected, unqualified, daughter-in-chief, is representing the US at the G20 summit next to May, Xi, Merkel. Photo @LanaLukash pic.twitter.com/fvs0EMy8z7

Ivanka fills in for her dad beside Xi Jinping. To me, it feels banana-republicky for the US to be represented by an inexperienced daughter. https://t.co/lDDlyCeFp9

Having Princess Ivanka represent US at G20 table a slap in face to other G20 leaders, other top admin officials, American people. Grotesque.

Why the hell is Ivanka Trump sitting in for daddy at G20 meetings?! What are her qualifications? Who voted for her?

Stayed up all night wondering what is the most embarrassing thing we can do at #G20. Then it dawned on me. Replace Donald with Ivanka. pic.twitter.com/uR7sTpQZjZ

So now the United States is Represented at the G20 by a shoe designer? Any comment from Fox News? pic.twitter.com/QV7GnF8pdd

Here’s a hypothetical for you: Let’s say Hillary Clinton had won the election and asked Chelsea Clinton to sit in for her while she had private meetings with world leaders at a G20 conference. How long do you think it would have taken Republicans to call for impeachment? 10 minutes? An hour?
