In the Hamptons last weekend, Lally Weymouth (media royalty) threw her annual birthday party, which happens to coincide with Independence Day. This is nothing unusual in itself, however this party saw guests in attendance, that you would not expect to be hanging out with one another. Kellyanne Conway, Ivanka and husband Jared Kushner were at the lavish party along with Democrats George Soros and Senator Chuck Schumer.
It has raised eyebrows because there is such a hostility between the Republicans and Democrats, that has only been ramped up by Trump’s election to the highest office in the land. President Donald Trump was not at the party (he is in Europe attending the G20 summit), but it seems a few of his surrogates certainly were.
It sure would have been interesting to have been a fly on the wall.
There has been quite a reaction to seeing these people socializing together. The Republicans spent a good chunk of Obama’s presidency blocking legislation and delaying the Supreme court pick. There is not enough room to list the ways in which Donald Trump has offended various people, the world has never seen such a reaction to a President. Yet, when a billionaire throws a party it seems everyone is invited and partisan barriers can be dropped.
Of the bipartisan event, Glenn Greenwald, reporter for the Intercept, tweeted this:

This on the same weekend Republican Chris Christie kicked everyone else off his beach so he didn’t have to be bothered by real people.
Trump was (strangely) elected because he campaigned as if he was against the elite. He is a billionaire real estate mogul and yet this pitch somehow worked. Now we see the reality of his presidency, kicking people off healthcare and giving tax breaks to the rich. It seems these policies suit the rich. It is sickening that while people are struggling to make ends meet, in the richest country in the world, these elites are partying together in the Hamptons. Let’s not forget Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and President Bill Clinton were in attendance at Melania and Donald’s wedding all those years ago, where they were all looking pretty chummy.
Perhaps this is why Vermont Senator Bernie Sander’s message has found such a following. Note – Sanders was not at this elite party. Maybe it is high time to ask the question: “Have the Democrats forgotten who they represent?”
