Liar-In-Chief Claims Republicans Have A ‘Big Surprise’ On Healthcare

As he so often does, President Trump is again making a promise he has no intention of keeping, meaning it would qualify as an outright lie.

As Congress prepares to leave Washington, D.C. for the July 4th recess, Trump met with the World Series champs of 2016, the Chicago Cubs, and afterwards he boldly announced:

“Healthcare is working along very well. We’re gonna have a big surprise. We have a great healthcare package.”

Actually, you have a healthcare package that is currently registering an approval rating of 17 percent, Mr. President. If that’s “great,” then you and the Republicans are indeed screwed.

Asked to clarify his remarks, Trump reiterated:

“We’re going to have a great, great surprise.”

Unless they come out with single-payer Medicare for all, the idea of a great surprise is probably not going to be realzied. Or maybe the GOP will just release a single sheet of paper that says, “We give up. Surprise!”

When a reporter mentioned that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer had suggested the president meet with Democrats and discuss a bipartisan deal, Trump replied:

“I don’t think he’s serious. He hasn’t been serious. Obamacare is such a disaster. And he wants to try and save something that’s hurting a lot of people. It’s hurting a lot of people.”

Of course, if the president was actually serious, he’d call Schumer and try to at least arrange a meeting. But that wouldn’t serve his larger agenda, which includes the fallback position of blaming Democrats when he and Mitch McConnell cannot get the necessary votes to pass their heartless repeal and replace legislation.

Republicans cannot legislate or govern. And Trump is a failure at everything he touches. That does not bode well for the future of their healthcare bill.
