Trump’s Got A New Lawyer And He Is Certainly Not The ‘Dream Team’ (TWEET/VIDEO)

President Donald Trump’s got a new attorney, and he’s already making a media splash. Jay Sekulow is the newest edition to Trump’s team of outside legal representation to advise him on the FBI and congressional investigations looking into possible collusion between members of his 2016 campaign and the Russian government.

He’s now part of the team that includes Marc Kasowitz, Mark Bowe, and John Dowd. But just who is Jay Sekulow?

A long-time Washington veteran, Sekulow has made a career of championing conservative causes in various courts of law. He’s argued in front of the Supreme Court almost a dozen times. And in 1990, Sekulow created the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), seen as the conservative counterpart to the ACLU. He has defended numerous evangelical Christian causes.

And of course he’s a regular on Fox News.

But his first actions as Trump’s personal lawyer have been awkward, making the news media cringe by contradicting himself during an interview with Chris Wallace. Remember this exchange?

Wallace: “You’ve now said he is being investigated after saying he wasn’t.”

Sekulow: “No.”

Wallace: “You JUST said he’s being investigated.”

And this?

Wallace: “Sir, you just said two times that he’s being investigated. And he’s not just being investigated for firing Comey, there’s also what he said to Comey when Comey was still the FBI director.”

And people pounced. Former US attorney Preet Bharara, whom Trump fired after refusing to resign, threw a little shade at Trump and his legal team on Twitter:

Ouch. Burn.

Donald Trump better hope that Mr. Sekulow is a better attorney than he showed during that interview. And that was on Fox News, which is friendly confines.

This just keeps getting better and better, honesty. Let’s hope that the fun continues!
