Could The AHCA Cause An Economic Recession? (VIDEO)

President Donald Trump has been tweeting and touting creating jobs for his entire presidency his entire campaign. However, there’s one law he’s touting that would kill millions of jobs.

The Senate is deciding just that right now. The Affordable Care Act replacement, the American Health Care Act, would kill one million of jobs if passed.

A new report from Commonwealth Fund and George Washington University researchers Leighton Ku, Erika Steinmetz, Erin Brantley, Nikhil Holla, and Brian K. Bruen found that the American Health Care Act would slash over a million jobs and cut the total states’ gross domestic product by over $93 billion. It would also cut business output by over $140 billion by 2026.

The report’s findings show:

“The AHCA would raise employment and economic activity at first, but lower them in the long run. It initially raises the federal deficit when taxes are repealed, leading to 864,000 more jobs in 2018. In later years, reductions in support for health insurance cause negative economic effects. By 2026, 924,000 jobs would be lost, gross state products would be $93 billion lower, and business output would be $148 billion less. About three-quarters of jobs lost (725,000) would be in the health care sector. States which expanded Medicaid would experience faster and deeper economic losses.”

Most of those jobs would be shed from the healthcare industry, obviously. Most of those losses would come from states that expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

By 2020, the medical industry would experience a large drop in jobs. It would cut the Medicaid funds to pre-ACA levels. Over 23 million fewer patients would have health insurance.

The Senate version of the bill would likely include a delay of the Medicaid cuts and a restructuring of the tax credits to soften the economic blow, but it will still be bad. We need to find a better solution then this horrible bill.
