Trying to keep up with the latest spin (aka blatant lie) emanating from the White House can give a person whiplash.
For example: First the Trump administration tried to deny reports that senior presidential adviser Jared Kushner had ever tried to set up a back-channel line of communication between the White House and Kremlin, with the president himself tweeting:
It is my opinion that many of the leaks coming out of the White House are fabricated lies made up by the #FakeNews media.

OK, so on Sunday it’s all fake news and fabricated lies. The same tired line we hear from Trump anytime he disagrees with solid reporting.
Now we arrive at Tuesday morning and Fox and Friends. Senior presidential adviser Kellyanne “Alternative Facts” Conway was the guest, and rather than continuing the lie about the Kushner story being “fabricated,” Conway said it was a great thing that Kushner was trying to open a dialogue with the Russians, adding:
“Back channels like this are the regular course of business”
When dimwitted co-host Brian Kilmeade asked if it was Kushner or the Russians who had suggested a secret way of staying in touch, Conway refused to comment, then noting:
“Because there is no reason to, frankly. This entire thing is just a rush to judgment. We have been talking about this for about 8 months and yet … it’s a lot easier to scream Russia, Russia, Russia every day.”
Here’s the big question for the White House: If back-channel talks with the Russians are a good thing and we should all be thankful Kushner was taking the actions that would establish such a dialogue, why did the White House initially deny the reports which broke last week? Why did they do a 180 degree flip in messaging over the course of 72 hours?
When someone lies to you and you catch them in it, only to have them tell another lie a second later, how can you ever trust that person again? This is why the Trump administration has zero credibility: They have lied so much, and so often, that now they are assumed to be lying the minute a member of the White House opens his or her mouth.
