Since FBI Director James Comey was suddenly fired from his position with six years remaining on his term in office, various members of the White House have been trying desperately to spin the removal of Comey with all sorts of patently absurd explanations which range from inane to downright bizarre.
But Minnesota Senator Al Franken isn’t buying the BS being peddled by the administration, and he systematically shredded the Trump team and their lies during a speech he made Wednesday in the Senate. Franken began his speech by noting:
“We know that the Russians interfered in the 2016 presidential elections…We know that the Russians carried out this attack with the goal of benefitting the campaign of Donald Trump, whom the Kremlin preferred to see win the election. These facts have been confirmed by our intelligence agencies.”
Why, we’ve all wondered, did the Russians favor Trump over Clinton? Franken admitted we don’t know that yet, but he then addressed the issue of the day: The firing of the FBI Director:
“The timing of Mr. Comey’s dismissal raises questions, and Mr. Trump’s decision to abruptly fire the man leading an investigation that could implicate the Trump administration should shock the conscience of every American who believes that no man or woman is above the law.”
And let’s not forget that paragraph in Trump’s letter to Comey in which the illegitimate head of state claimed Comey had told him on three separate occasions that he was not a subject of the investigation, which sounds exactly like previous lies Trump has disseminated along the way as the Trump-Russia scandal has deepened. To that, Franken replied:
“Mr. President, these documents really create more questions than they answer.”
What will be interesting to see is who Trump now chooses to replace Comey. If he nominates a political hack such as Rudy Giuliani or Trey Gowdy, then we’ll know this sham of a president is just as guilty as we’ve long suspected.
