WATCH Sally Yates Open Up A Can Of Whoop As* And Mop The Senate Floor With Ted Cruz

Texas Senator Ted Cruz considers himself an expert on the U.S. Constitution. Which is odd when you consider that the majority of Cruz’s political beliefs run directly counter to the document he claims to adore so much.

At Monday’s Senate hearing on the matter of Russian interference in the 2016 election, Cruz decided he’d ignore the topic of the day and instead try to make former acting Attorney General Sally Yates defend her decision to not litigate on behalf of Donald Trump’s Muslim ban executive order. You would think Cruz would be loathe to try and do the job of standing up for Trump, who repeatedly ridiculed both him and his wife during the Republican primaries. But sure enough, Teddy Boy relished the chance to kiss Trump’s fat ass and try to act like he understood the Constitution better than Yates.

Cruz started his attack on the action Yates took regarding the Muslim ban by noting that the Office of Legal Counsel had issued a determination the executive order was legal. Yates calmly rebutted that assertion by saying the travel ban ignored the First Amendment right that no one be discriminated against due to their religion, adding:

“In this particular instance, particularly where we were talking about a fundamental issue of religious freedom, not the interpretation of some arcane statute, but religion freedom, it was appropriate for us to look at the intent behind the president’s actions and the intent is laid out in his statements.”

Trying to trip Yates up and game of legal “gotcha,” Cruz then inquired:

“In the over 200 years of the Department of Justice history, are you aware of any instance in which the Department of Justice has formally approved the legality of a policy and three days later the attorney general has directed the department not to follow that policy and to defy that policy?”

To that, Yates proved she was equal to the pompous Texas Republican, replying:

“I’m not, but I’m also not aware of a situation where the Office of Legal Counsel was advised not to tell the attorney general about it until after it was over.”

At that moment, you saw the birth of a new star for the Democratic party and a reminder of why Ted Cruz will never ever be president.
