National Disgrace: Flint Citizens Billed For Poisoned Water – Could Now Lose Their Houses (VIDEO)

People of Flint, Michigan have had insult added to injury. Not only has their water been poisoned with high levels of lead, they now face financial ruin because they have not paid their water bills.

Some 8000 water bills have been unpaid. In events that seem like something from a Hollywood film, the people of Flint have faced heartache after heartache. The city is still replacing pipelines in a town that has suffered all sorts of terrible health consequences of contaminated water. Many residents have not only been threatened with the water being cut, but they are also now are being informed that if the bills are unpaid, they may face tax liens on their houses. This could mean losing their homes.

Al Mooney from the City of Flint Treasury Department has explained the thinking behind their collection process:

“We have to have revenue coming in, so we can’t give people revenue, I mean excuse me, give people water at the tap and not get revenue coming in to pay those bills.”

This might make sense if the water was clean, safe, and free of lead.

The threats have left the residents shaken. Mother and activist Melissa Mays has said:

“I got scared, for probably the first time since this all started this actually scared me, While I understand this is the way the law reads we are in a totally different situation.”

Indeed they are. Mays has been told if she does not pay $900 by May 19, proceedings will begin that could end in foreclosure.

Does anyone else feel that the terrible situation in Flint is just crazy, considering the United States is the richest country in the world?

How can this heartless government not only deny citizen clean water but also vote to repeal Obamacare only to leave millions without health care? Does anyone else understand why the budget for war is never questioned? And yet these people in Flint are being told to pay for toxic water?

The actions of government here are the likes of Batman villains, except this is real life, affecting real people. It is common sense that this is unjust and an absolute national disgrace.

Dan Kildee, congressman agrees:

Flint families should not have to pay for water that they still cannot drink, and they certainly should not lose their homes over this ongoing water crisis that was caused by the callous decisions of state government. It is unfortunate that Governor Snyder ended water credits for Flint families. I opposed this decision because Flint families deserve support from the state until there is confidence in the water system again.”

Let us hope that justice prevails, actually let’s not just hope, let’s demand it! This is ridiculous!
