Thursday morning, CNN reported that Donald Trump’s former National Security Adviser, Michael Flynn, is now in some very deep trouble, with the House Oversight Committee saying it obtained documents from the Department of Defense which show Flynn was warned about accepting foreign payments as far back as 2014. Additionally, the Defense Department’s inspector general has also opened an investigation into Flynn.
The new focus on Flynn could be very bad news for the White House, so the alleged president decided he’d go on Twitter and try to distract everyone by holding forth on all kinds of totally unrelated matters:
I want to help our miners while the Democrats are blocking their healthcare.

I promise to rebuild our military and secure our border. Democrats want to shut down the government. Politics!

What's more important? Rebuilding our military – or bailing out insurance companies? Ask the Democrats.

Democrats jeopardizing the safety of our troops to bail out their donors from insurance companies. It is time to put #AmericaFirst??

Democrats used to support border security — now they want illegals to pour through our borders.

As families prepare for summer vacations in our National Parks – Democrats threaten to close them and shut down the government. Terrible!

The pattern is clear: When the heat increases on Trump and his administration, he goes on social media and tries to get everyone to look at something else. It’s just diversion, and by now the vast majority of Americans know exactly what he’s up to. You would think he’d try to change strategies and do something less obvious and desperate. But he doesn’t, mainly because he’s an old man and he’s stuck in his ways.
Michael Flynn will wind up being the downfall of this administration. It may not lead directly to impeachment, but it will leave Trump so badly damaged that it will likely cost his party control of Congress in 2018 and make any plans he has for reelection impossible. The next thing we have to watch out for is this maniac trying to start a war as a cynical ploy to change the subject.
