WATCH An MSNBC Host Fact-Check A GOP Congressman Who Tries To Lie About Canada

If there’s one thing a you can always count on Republicans being in favor of, it’s tax cuts for giant corporations and anyone who makes more than a million dollars a year. The GOP is all about cutting taxes on those who help fund their corrupt campaigns.

On Wednesday, Maryland GOP Congressman Andy Harris was a guest on MSNBC to discuss the matter of the tax cuts being proposed by the Trump administration. One plank of the tax plan would reduce the corporate tax rate from 35 to 15 percent, because clearly companies like Dow, Exxon Mobil, and Walmart don’t make nearly enough profit.

When MSNBC host Ali Velshi said the cut on the business tax rate would balloon the deficit, Harris insisted that the lower rate would “unleash our economy,” Velshi reminded Harris:

“Canada dropped corporate taxes to 15 percent. It didn’t unleash economic growth at that level.”

Harris then attempted to try and pretend he knew more about Canada than Velshi, who just so happens to be Canadian:

“The problem is that Canada is a much more socialistic country. So, if you don’t control spending at the same time, you’re not going to see that benefit. But we just don’t have the same political environment that Canada has. And that’s why Canada probably didn’t succeed in that.

“Canada’s never had the reputation of being a growth powerhouse in the world for the economy. And we have. And we can restore that, again, through these corporate tax reductions and pass through entity tax reductions that the president is talking about.”

Velshi, who was raised in Toronto, then hit Harris right in the face with a fact-check that must have left the GOP Congressman dizzy, telling him:

“Actually Canada’s growth exceeded that of the United States on a GDP basis for many years. In fact, quite recently.”

Republicans hate facts because facts counter and help shut down their endless lies. Nice job, Ali!
