Republican Lawmaker Founded Reddit’s Misogynistic ‘Red Pill’ Group (TWEETS)

Since 2012, a Reddit community with over 200,000 members called “The Red Pill” has been dispensing misogynistic pick-up advice and attempting to normalize rape culture. Although toxic internet culture is nothing new, this is a particularly large home base for the “manosphere,” a group of people on the internet who feel being a man in society has been demonized, and that women will only not have sex with them as some sort of strange punishment. What’s particularly striking about this group is who apparently founded it: a sitting state Republican representative in New Hampshire, Robert Fisher.

The Daily Beast did some digging into Fisher’s internet history, and they were able to connect several dots to highlight him as the founder of the Red Pill community. The Red Pill identifies itself as:

“Discussion of sexual strategy in a culture increasingly lacking a positive identity for men.”

The name comes from the film The Matrix, where the main character can choose between taking a blue pill to stay in his fantasy world, or a red pill to “wake up” and see the truth. It seems correct to assume that this group sees themselves as awakening men to the “unfair” standards that women hold them to, like not being creepy losers.

According to the Daily Beast, Fisher originally began posting under the alias of “Pk_atheist” through a series of blogs and posts. He started off coming to terms with the fact that he had lost his faith (the “Pk” in his name stands for “preacher’s kid,” as Fisher’s father was a minister), but quickly transformed into an alpha male anti-feminist. Here’s Fisher’s thoughts on how much women contribute to his life:

“I find women’s personalities in general to be lackluster and boring, serving little purpose in my day to day life. So I usually only compare body types. As far as the dead fish problem, I think I’ve found that across all ages.”

Sounds like this guy knows how to treat a lady. Speaking of, Fisher also claims he is “overdue” for a false rape accusation, since:

“You can’t have sex with this many women without getting one.”

I would be willing to guess there are several people out there who aren’t complete garbage who would beg to differ. And finally, while he’s on the subject of rape, he had this to say:

“I’m going to say it—Rape isn’t an absolute bad, because the rapist I think probably likes it a lot. I think he’d say it’s quite good, really.”

Naturally, Twitter had a lot to say about the revelation that a Republican state representative would have this misogynistic viewpoint:

Will the people of New Hampshire get Fisher out of office? Who knows? Judging by recent elections, Fisher’s probably next in line to be President.
