Right-wing Infowars host and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is being sued by yogurt giant Chobani over the ridiculous claims Jones made about the company. The video published on April 11 shows Jones saying that the company imports “migrant rapists.”
Jones has refused to take down the false video. The video links Chobani CEO Hamdi Ulukaya to a rape case in Idaho involving refugee children. Infowars has not replied for a comment.
Chobani’s attorneys wrote:
“(Jones) is no stranger to spurious statements. He has claimed that the U.S. government orchestrated the 9/11 attacks and the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. Mr. Jones has now taken aim at Chobani and the Twin Falls community.”
An Infowars reporter also said that Chobani’s Idaho factory brought “crime and tuberculosis” to the area. The lawsuit says:
“The defendants defamatory statements were designed to cause — and did in fact cause — customers to call for a boycott of Chobani’s products,”
Chobani is seeking $10,000 in damages and has repeatedly asked Jones to remove the inaccurate coverage.
From the Infowars website:
“The rape of a 5 yr old special needs girl by 2 refugee teenagers in Twin Falls, ID was mocked as false news.”
“…Immediately CBS’ 60 minutes begins a rehabilitation of the image of the man who has championed refugee employment in the area, where they provide cheap labor for his yogurt factory — the world’s largest.”
“Why has this foreign citizen been showered with $800,000 in ‘Small Business’ loans and allowed to use that to lobby his way into Michelle Obama’s $15B school lunch program and sit on the NY Federal Reserve Board, even though he’s still a Turkish citizen?”
Jones is having a bad week. He is dealing with a custody battle with his children. He has whined and asked the press to “be respectful” during this time for his family. I feel sorry for his kids. Jones is claiming that the raving lunatic you see on the screen is a “character” he is playing.
Here is the offending video:
