RWNJ Pastor Turns On Trump, Warns Jews May Make Him Start WWIII (TWEETS, AUDIO)

For most of the first months of the Donald Trump administration, the religious right has remained stoutly in the Donald’s corner. Even though many of the worst fears of both liberals and Republican never-Trumpers have come to pass, the religious right would have you believe that those fears are the result of witchcraft and demons.

Even by religious right standards, Rick Wiles of TruNews was a particularly fanatical supporter of Trump. He went as far as to declare that anyone who dared oppose Trump was committing sedition, and was breaking both secular law and divine law. Well, by his own standards, Wiles is now guilty of sedition. In the wake of Trump’s missile strike on a Syrian air base, Wiles has now turned violently on the Donald.

As early as April 5, Wiles expressed alarm at the signs that Trump was getting ready to attack Syria in retaliation for Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad’s chemical attack on his own people. He claimed that “the far left” had pushed Trump “right into the arms of America’s neocon war lords.” He didn’t think it was a coincidence that Trump started rattling his saber when Steve Bannon was turfed from the National Security Council. Wiles speculated that one of two things was happening–either Trump is being played by the “neocon war machine,” or he was crawling into bed with the neocons. In any case, he believed that Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was helping drive the war talk.

“My enthusiasm for Donald Trump is very, very low today. It’s very low. And I gotta tell you right now, Mr. President. If you bring in the warlords, if you switch sides to the neocons and the warlords and the deep state, if you switch sides, you’re on your own. Count me out. I’m not gonna back you. You’re on your own.”

Hours after the attack, Wiles wondered if it was the result of Kushner and the “Goldman Sachs banksters” pulling off an “internal coup.” By Monday, he had apparently decided the answer to that question was “yes.” He announced on Twitter that he had changed his registration from Republican to independent.

Wiles told his audience that he now believed Trump had “surrendered to the Goldman Sachs war lords,” who were pushing him headlong into war with Russia, China, and Iran. As far as he was concerned, this meant that Trump not only “has no intention of draining the swamp,” but was “swimming with cunning crocodiles.” It’s awfully hard to give Wiles much credit here. After all, he was willing to gloss over Trump’s stratospheric and potentially impeachable conflicts of interest for this long.

That reversal didn’t play well with many of Wiles’ listeners, prompting him to put his critics on blast on Tuesday. People for the American Way’s Right Wing Watch got a clip.

Wiles railed that Trump was now willing to call in missile strikes “based on Facebook postings” and the whisperings of his daughter, Ivanka. He mused that Vladimir Putin’s daughter might suggest that her father order a bombing raid on this country “because she saw something on Facebook.”

But just when we thought that Wiles had finally come to his senses, he appeared to show his true colors when he claimed Trump was being roped into being a proxy for Israel–and unless he came to his senses, we could wind up in World War III.

“Why do we have to fight Israel’s wars? Why to we have to fight for Goldman Sachs? Let ’em fight their own wars.”

There was just a small hope that Wiles inadvertently lumped Goldman Sachs in with Israel. But that hope was dashed when Wiles devoted much of the second half of his show to a sermon he preached at his church, Flowing Streams Church in Vero Beach. He used it to attack the Orthodox Jewish beliefs of the First Daughter and First Son-In-Law, holding them responsible for talking Trump into the Syria strike. He accused them of being practitioners of Kabbala, or Jewish mysticism, and claimed that they were orchestrating a “Kabbalist infiltration of the West Wing.”

Wiles continued on this line the following day, playing the second part of his sermon attacking the Kushners. Right Wing Watch got a clip.

Wiles claimed that the Kushners are Lubavtichers, and are followers of Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the celebrated Lubavitch rebbe who died in 1994. In truth, Kusnher is a Modern Orthodox Jew, or an Orthodox Jew who believes a Jew can be observant and still be fully part of the modern world.

Wiles claimed that on the Saturday before the election, the Kushners went to Schneerson’s grave to seek his “messianic blessing” for Trump’s campaign and asked his “messianic blessing” for Trump’s campaign. In truth, while a number of Schneerson’s followers tried to proclaim him the Messiah, Schneerson himself adamantly denied this to the day he died. Wiles went on to say that for all intents and purposes, Schneerson was “who is whispering in Donald Trump’s ear, ‘bomb Syria!'”

But then Wiles went way off the deep end. He suggested that Ivanka was just like Herod’s daughter, who convinced Herod to kill John the Baptist. He then accused Ivanka of being “a Kabbala practicing, evil woman whispering evil things in the ear of her father”–and thus, no different from a witch. He claimed that Ivanka and Jared were plotting to surround Trump with Kabbala practitioners. As a result, “the only advice he is going to get will be from people who are evil.”

Wow. This isn’t just a dog whistle, folks. This is a dog whistle being blown into a megaphone. As far as Wiles is concerned, Trump is now complicit in the worldwide Jewish conspiracy. I’d wondered why the religious right remained silent at Trump’s blatantly anti-Semitic final ad. Well, now I have my answer.

Darrell is a 30-something graduate of the University of North Carolina who considers himself a journalist of the old school. An attempt to turn him into a member of the religious right in college only succeeded in turning him into the religious right's worst nightmare--a charismatic Christian who is an unapologetic liberal. His desire to stand up for those who have been scared into silence only increased when he survived an abusive three-year marriage. You may know him on Daily Kos as Christian Dem in NC.
