Donald Trump, some Republicans claim, is the second coming of Ronald Reagan. Of course, this is a massive insult to Ronald Reagan, who actually knew how to govern and had at least one son–Ron, Jr.–who turned out to be a decent human being.
But now we have longtime Trump knob polisher Jeffrey Lord claiming on CNN Thursday morning that Trump reminds him a great deal of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Take a moment to swallow the bile you feel rising in your throat when you read that statement.
During a discussion of healthcare and Trump’s threat to withhold payments for health insurance companies as a negotiating tactic to force Democrats to help him repeal the Affordable Care Act, Lord declared that Trump was the “Martin Luther King of healthcare.” And he then added:
“When I was a kid, the president [Lyndon Johnson] didn’t want to introduce the civil rights bill because he did not have the votes for it. Dr. King kept putting people in the streets in harm’s way to put pressure on for the bill to be put forward.”
WTF?! Trump is like Dr. King?! Are you freaking kidding me? Let’s never forget that it was Trump who kept the lie about President Obama not being born in the United States alive for years to try and delegitimize the first African-American to hold the highest office in the land.
Fortunately, fellow panelist Symone Sanders shut Lord and his ludicrous comparison down right then and there by commenting:
“Dr. King was marching for civil rights because people that looked like me were being beaten. Basic human rights were being denied to these people merely because of the color of the skin. Let’s not equate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. — a humanitarian and Nobel Peace Prize winner — to the vagina-grabbing President Donald Trump.”
Boom! Countering bullshit with facts. That’s how you put the beatdown on a Trumpkin.
