Russia Sends Trump A Message – Armed Warship Anchors Off The Coast Of Syria (VIDEO)

A Russian battlegroup of ships off the coast of Syria has added a new member: The Admiral Grigorovich-class frigate. This Russian warship is armed with Kalibr cruise missiles, the equivalent of the Tomahawk missiles that President Donald Trump ordered fired on a Syrian airbase yesterday. The U.S. strike was in response to Syrian autocrat Bashar al-Assad using chemical weapons against his own citizens in their ongoing civil war.

The Admiral Grigorovich moving in range of the Syrian coast casts a long shadow over Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s upcoming visit to Moscow and meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Fyodor Lukyanov, a Moscow foreign policy expert, had this to say about the aggressive escalation between the U.S. and Russia in Syria:

“There’s a bad scenario with this flexing of muscles. The danger of a clash between the US and Russia in Syria is not pleasant, and it could have bad consequences … But there’s also a positive scenario. For Trump, discussion with Russia about co-operation in Syria was impossible before because it was a discussion from a position of weakness. Now we can say that America has shown its abilities, has returned to the picture, and the conversation won’t be one-sided, neither side will dominate, and this creates possibilities and preconditions for dialogue.”

Trump’s aggressive move may turn out to be little more than a smokescreen, as it appears little actual damage was done with the Tomahawk missiles.. The Guardian reports that Syrian planes had already resumed flights out of the airbase within only a few hours of the airstrike.

Whether Trump’s move was just a tactic to flex his muscles, a coordinated go-ahead by his alleged ally (or puppetmaster, depending who you ask) Vladimir Putin, or a true strategic strike, we will have to wait and see. Either way, Tillerson and Putin will have a lot more to talk about than just oil in their upcoming meeting.
