POS Lawmaker Wants Women To Carry Dead Babies To Term (VIDEO)

We knew that anti-abortion activists were heartless, but not to this extent.

‘Good Medicine’

Despite the fact that most abortions occur within the first trimester, lawmakers continue to try and impose 20-week bans. Rep. Shannon Lundgren (R-Iowa) recently made a startling statement while discussing Senate File 471.

The law would criminalize any abortions after 20 weeks, or when the fetus is viable. Offenders would be charged with feticide, a Class C felony.

Rep. John Forbes (D-Iowa) asked Lundgren about his own pregnant daughter. He questioned whether or not it was “good medicine” to make her carry to term even if the doctor doesn’t detect a heartbeat.

Lundgren said:

This bill wasn’t written for the intent to protect or govern on the side of the woman. It was written to save babies’ lives, giving the choice and being the voice of those babies…that don’t have one. I understand what you’re saying-this fetus, this baby is not alive. I would concur in that instance, if your daughter’s life is not in danger, that yes, she would have to carry that baby.”

Abortions In Iowa

Every Democrat and one Republican opposed this bill, which ended up passing with an 11 to 8 vote. Since 93 percent of abortions occur within the first 13 weeks of a pregnancy, this wouldn’t prevent too many from occurring. The ones it would prevent, however, could be life-threatening.

Late-term abortions are usually medically necessary. For example, a woman who miscarries must have the dead fetus removed through a procedure called dilation and curettage (D&C). D&C prevents the woman from experiencing sepsis, which is a buildup of toxic bacteria that leads to death.

This law would require doctors to tell the government why a D&C is needed.

It’s not just miscarriages that result in late-term abortions, though. Some women develop infections or dangerously high blood pressure while pregnant with a live fetus. Not choosing to terminate could result in them dying. Visible fetal abnormalities, especially ones that show a fetus won’t survive outside of the womb, are also reasons for a late-term abortion.

Not one person said ‘wait a minute’ after Lundgren spoke. In fact, it wasn’t until the video of her saying it surfaced online did the Iowa GOP make a statement clarifying their definition of abortion:

“The termination of a human pregnancy with the intent other than to produce a live birth or remove a dead fetus.”

They even went on record to say she ‘misspoke.’

It’s sad that it took the video going viral just acknowledge how insensitive Lundgren had been. Late-term abortions are rare and happen for a reason. Let’s keep the government out of our uteri.
