Alex Jones Bails On Pizzagate Conspiracy He Promoted (VIDEOS)

For the better part of a decade, Alex Jones has been one of the nation’s loudest conspiracy theorists. There was literally nothing that he wasn’t willing to claim was a false flag, and no event that didn’t make him think there was something sinister lurking behind the scenes. But this weekend, while most of the nation was rejoicing at TrumpRyanCare going down in flames, Jones was forced to admit–albeit tacitly–that he’d gone too far. He formally stepped back from his prominent role in promoting the Pizzagate conspiracy theory.

Just a few hours before the House Republicans were forced to yank the TrumpRyanCare bill from the calendar, Jones released this.

An unusually contrite Jones read a prepared statement in which he apologized to James Alefantis, the owner of Comet Ping Pong, the Washington pizza parlor that has been the supposed focus of a child sex trafficking ring involving a number of prominent Democrats. Jones said that during Infowars’ coverage of Pizzagate, “I made comments about Mr. Alefantis that in hindsight I regret.” He added that as near as he could determine, neither Alefantis nor Comet Ping Pong have ever been involved in human trafficking, and apologized for “any negative impact” that Infowars’ coverage may have had “on Mr. Alefantis, Comet Ping Pong, or its employees.”

In the statement, which was also posted to Infowars, Jones claims that he actually began backtracking from his promotion of Pizzagate in December. What he didn’t mention was that he was all but forced to do so in the aftermath of one of his followers deciding to “self-investigate” the supposed goings-on at Comet Ping Pong. That man, Edgar Welch, walked into the restaurant with an AR-15 clone and opened fire–but fortunately, no one was killed.

The FBI’s criminal complaint against Welch specifically mentioned that just days before the shooting, Welch watched an Infowars video about Pizzagate. Soon after that complaint was unsealed, Jones began scrubbing much of his Pizzagate-related material from his Website and social media platforms. Hours before Jones announced he was distancing himself from Pizzagate, Welch pleaded guilty to local District charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and federal charges of interstate transportation of a firearm with intent to commit a crime.

But Jones was getting squeezed from another direction as well. In his announcement, Jones mentioned that Alefantis had sent him a letter on February 22 demanding that he retract a number of “defaming” statements that aired on seven Infowars shows in November and December. The letter amounted to an announcement in capital letters that Alefantis was threatening to sue for libel. Under Texas law, had Jones not apologized by Friday, he would have exposed himself to punitive damages.

Jones claims that he now realizes his reporting was based on “an incorrect narrative.” It’s more likely that his moment of supposed clarity came from fears of actually having to answer for someone nearly being killed, as well as the prospect of being sued out of business.

On Monday, Jones actually tried to fob off the controversy on the mainstream media. Watch here.

To hear Jones talk, Pizzagate was just an attempt to distract the nation’s attention from a real child sex trafficking scandal in New York City.

From the looks of it, Jones was trying to calm his own followers, a number of whom picketed outside the White House Saturday to demand an investigation into Pizzagate. If that was Jones’ intention, it didn’t work. Here are some of the comments from Jones’ followers on YouTube.

“I think your apology to Alefantis has made a lot of people angry at you”
“It’s one thing, Alex, to retract your statements about Alefantis, another to say its 100% not true, apologize to a potential pedo, and attack your viewers as being stupid sheep!”
“apologizing to James Alefantis???? are you f**king kidding me? PATHETIC. Been with you since Austin Access in the 90s. pffft… no more. You could’ve backed off of this and bided your time on it without apologizing to that evil despicable piece of filthy s**t James Alefantis. PUTRID… Why did you disable the comments and ratings for your pussy ass apology video? DISPICABLE!!!”
“sorry alex but there is just way to many coincidences…pizza gate is real”
“who cares ALex. if you don’t believe in Pizzagate Many of us do”
“Sorry Alex, but I can’t sit here and watch you defend Alefantis. Pizza Gate is absolutely real and wasn’t started by MSM. Disappointing that you won’t choose the right side on this one.”

That, friends, is what you get when you convince your followers that the Super Bowl halftime show was a Satanic ritual, among other things. When you brainwash people into believing lies, they’re not willing to accept the truth–no matter what.
