Silly Republicans Run Ads Thanking Reps For Repealing Obamacare (VIDEO)

For years, Republicans have harped on destroying the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. Former President Barack Obama’s signature piece of legislation has been a boogeyman for Republican lawmakers; they have endlessly spoken about doing away with the health care law and replacing it with something even better. They rarely had many details about just what that replacement would be, as President Donald Trump showed during his campaign by merely promising “something terrific.” The American Health Care Act, introduced on March 8, was supposed to be that terrific plan.

The problem is that nearly everyone hated it.

Far right Republicans thought it did not do enough to roll back Obamacare, with many dubbing it “Obamacare-lite” or “Obamacare 2.0.” Moderate Republicans were worried that too many of their constituents would lose health care and take their anger to the midterm elections. And no one on the left thought it addressed any of the problems that need to be fixed in the current law. Because of this, the bill was pulled before it could even be voted on, dealing a huge blow to both Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.), who was the bill’s main cheerleader, and President Trump.

Some Republican groups did not receive the memo in time. On Friday, several ads ran in different districts, thanking Republican lawmakers for repealing the ACA and replacing it with something better. One such ad ran during the Washington Wizards-Brooklyn Nets basketball game in the state of Virginia to support Representative Barbara Comstock (R-Va.). The ad states:

Republicans are keeping their promise with a new plan for better health care. More choices and lower costs. Putting doctors and patients in charge again. No more big-government penalties or job killing mandates. New tax credits to make insurance cheaper, and real protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Thank Congresswoman Barbara Comstock for keeping her promise and replacing the Affordable Care Act with the better health care you deserve.”

The ads were paid for by the American Action Network super-PAC. Deadspin reports that identical ads were run in other districts, including those of David Valadao (R-Calif.), David Young (R-Iowa), and Will Hurd (R-Texas). You can watch the ad for Congresswoman Comstock below. Feel free to call the number provided and thank her for “keeping her promise.”
