What Does 24 Million People Losing Health Insurance Look Like? Rachel Maddow Explains (VIDEO)

If the proposed replacement for the Affordable Care Act was already on the verge of collapsing, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimate of how many Americans would lose health insurance under Trumpcare may have been the final blow to the controversial plan. CBO estimates that 14 million people would lose their insurance by 2018, and that number would skyrocket to 24 million by 2026.

On her show last night, Rachel Maddow helped us all better understand just how massive those losses are, noting:

“The big news that broke in Washington late this afternoon was word from the Congressional Budget Office that the Republican plan to get rid of Obamacare. The Republican plan to repeal the Affordable Care Act would throw 24 million Americans off their health insurance, which is absolutely astonishing.

“If you’re trying to get your head around 24 million Americans. How many people that is, it is roughly — this is slightly understating the case — but it is roughly the population of all of these states combined.”

A map of the United States was shown on the screen, and then Maddow explained just how dramatically Trumpcare would rip health insurance away from millions of people:

“24 million people is the entire population of Vermont, Alabama, North Dakota, South Dakota, Delaware, Rhode Island, Nebraska, New Mexico, Kansas and Wyoming combined — and then some. That’s the number of Americans who would get thrown off their health insurance if this Republican thing passes to get rid of Obamacare.”

Yep, the population of 10 American states. Trumpcare would be devastating for low-income Americans and the middle class, the very voters Trump swore he would take care of. Problem is, those are the same people Republicans have been screwing over for decades so they can give massive tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires. And that’s the plan this time: Take affordable healthcare away from 24 million and cut taxes for those earning $250,000 a year or more.

Instead of Trumpcare, it would be a lot more accurate to call it an early Christmas present for the wealthy.
