NEW: GOP Rep. Calls For All White Western Civilization (TWEETS)

Welcome to the new Nazi era.

Well known xenophobe and white nationalist Congressman Steve King (R-Iowa) is taking his hate speech to a whole new level.

Last night the far right American bigot tweeted his belief that in order to defend Western Civilization, we have to stop immigrants from coming in and watering down the gene pool. Using alt-right code words, he said that we can’t save our society “with somebody else’s babies.”

As reprehensible as that sentiment was, King refused to back down when he got pushback from the public and from his colleagues. Both called out his bigotry and labelled him as an embarrassment to Iowa and to Congress.

Today the Congressional bigot appeared on CNN’s “New Day.”  He was asked if he had really meant what he’d tweeted. His response shows that he knows exactly what he is saying, and that he is deliberately appealing to a specific audience of nationalist xenophobes both here and in Europe. King told host Chris Cuomo:

“Well, of course I meant exactly what I said. It’s a clear message. We need to get our birth rates up or Europe will be entirely transformed within a half century or a little more. And Geert Wilders knows that and that’s part of his campaign and part of his agenda.”

Geert Wilders is a Dutch politician who leads a far right anti-Islamic party in the Netherlands. He has compared the Quran to Hitler’s Mein Kampf. He has come to power on a campaign of fear, telling voters that Europe is being overtaken by radical Islam.

Rep. Steve King is one of his biggest admirers. They share the same narrow minded view of white racial supremacy and the same extreme fear of “others,” including Latinos and Muslims.

King went on this morning to defend his indefensible statement about “other people’s babies.” He talked about groups of immigrants who have “refused to assimilate” into American culture. He went on to call himself a defender of “Western Civilization,” claiming that it’s a “superior civilization.”

But his comments got even worse, and even more outrageous.

The Congressman wasn’t at all hesitant to state his wish for a uniformly white United States. He said,

“I’d like to see an America that’s just so homogenous that we look a lot the same, from that perspective.”

Republicans in both the House and Senate had better pay attention. When one of their colleagues comes right out and all but quotes Adolph Hitler, they better step up real quick and denounce him.

Republican voters in Iowa and across the country better be tuning into this dangerous rhetoric, too. People of good will from both political parties had better start raising their voices if there is going to be the slightest hope of outshouting horrible, twisted people like Representative Steve King.
