House GOP Intel Chair: Michael Flynn Should Be ‘Thanked’ For His Secret Talks With The Russians

Devin Nunes, the Republican chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, says Americans should be thanking disgraced National Security Adviser Michael Flynn for his talks with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

As the Intelligence Committee begins looking into the Trump-Russia connection, Nunes told the New York Times:

“From everything that I can see, his conversations with the Russian ambassador, he was doing this country a favor, and he should be thanked for it.”

Nunes also told the Times Flynn is just a “tangent” in the upcoming investigation of various contacts between Trump administration officials and members of the Russian government.

Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, says he fears the entire investigation will be a GOP whitewash with the outcome predetermined so that damage to the White House can be minimized. Schiff also indicated that Democrats might refuse to participate if they decide Nunes and the Republicans are unwilling to engage in a thorough and honest inquiry:

“If we get to the point at any time where I feel we can’t do that, where there are legitimate lines of investigation that are being walled off, then I will say so.”

Schiff’s comments were echoed by Congresswoman Jackie Speier, another Democrat on the Intelligence Committee:

“I’m not going to be part of a dog-and-pony show that is not a serious effort to do an investigation because this is really serious. If it’s not a legitimate and comprehensive investigation, why would be party to it?”

The committee will also look into allegations made by the alleged president that Trump Tower was wiretapped by former President Barack Obama. Trump has offered no supporting evidence to bolster his specious charge, and Democrats say that should they determine Trump was lying when he tweeted out the wiretapping claim, they will make that public and let the American public know the so-called head of state is once again engaging in ludicrous conspiracy theories based on information from right-wing media outlets.
