We all know that the Affordable Care Act was nicknamed Obamacare, and we are all trying to come up with the most hilarious nickname for the Republican monstrosity that is meant to replace it. But it appears anything we can come up with is not nearly as ridiculous, or as funny, as what the Republicans themselves have already put on the ACTUAL BILL. Seriously. Take a look at this excerpt from H.R. 1275, taken directly from the official Congressional website. This is the word for word short title taken from the bill:
(a) Short Title.—This Act may be cited as the “World’s Greatest Healthcare Plan of 2017”.
I don’t know if the authors of the bill figured that no one would read it, or if it was just a clever ruse to get our fair leader President Donald Trump to pay attention to it. But the internet has seized upon the short title and run with it. One website couldn’t help but blasting the bill’s terrible grammar, while British publication The Guardian took the opportunity to list all the ridiculous names for Trump era proposed bills so far. Take a look, they’re a laugh riot. My personal favorite comes from Salon:
“But what great branding! How could Donald Trump, our most brand-obsessed president ever not go for a bill named “World’s Greatest Healthcare Plan of 2017?” Print it on gold-trimmed paper! Chisel it on marble tablets and set them on the National Mall as a monument to Republican greatness!”
Reading the rest of the bill is just as much fun. Those on the far right are calling it Obamacare Lite, while experts are warning that millions will lose coverage, especially the baby boomer generation.
