The droids are being waved in our face and yet the presidential administration continues to say, “What droids?”
Not the Comrades You’re Looking For
Senator Angus King (I-Maine) made an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe yesterday. Like most of the world, he basically laughed at the growing evidence and continuous denial that President Donald Trump’s campaign conspired with Russia to help him win. More specifically, he compared it to a certain movie scene.
About the shoulder shrugs over random meetings with the Russians, King said:
“The denials remind me of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the first ‘Star Wars.’ Remember when he says, ‘These aren’t the droids you’re looking for?'”
The famous scene he’s referring to involves Obi-Wan Kenobi being stopped by Stormtroopers. Before he can proceed any further in his vehicle, they ask for his identification.
With the flick of a wrist, Kenobi has them under his Jedi spell and proceeds to say no, you don’t need my I.D. and no, these aren’t the droids you’re looking for.
Kenobi and the droids are then allowed inside, no questions asked.
Russian Ties
Angus made a poignant observation that the Trump administration is attempting to do a Jedi mind trick of their own. Except this isn’t Star Wars and Jedis don’t exist.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions (R) is the latest to come under fire for not disclosing meetings with the Russians during the campaign. After that news leaked out, he gave a press conference during which he recused himself of all investigations into the matter.
It’s not that he didn’t just disclose the meeting, though. He lied about it during his confirmation hearing.
When asked by Senator Al Franken (D-Minn.) about what he’d do with evidence linking the Trump campaign to Russia during the election, Sessions said:
“I’m not aware of any of those activities. I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians.”
He met with them twice during the campaign.
In addition to an independent investigation, perhaps it’s time for Trump to release his tax returns. He’s a public servant and Americans need to know if he has any ties to Russia, especially since we’re in bed with them now.
