Jimmy Kimmel Tweets Donald Trump During Oscars… Trump Remains Silent (VIDEO)

During the 89th Academy Awards, host Jimmy Kimmel noticed that our Commander-in-Chief hadn’t tweeted anything in opposition to the prestigious awards ceremony. So he took it upon himself to ask the President if he was watching… and the resulted tweet is absolutely hilarious.

Jimmy Kimmel tweeted the @realDonaldTrump handle about two hours into the broadcast of the Academy Awards because he realized that the usually outspoken Trump had been silent throughout the ceremony.

On live television Kimmel used his personal cellphone to tweet Trump saying firstly:

“@realDonaldTrump, u up?”

Then he followed that with a second tweet that read:

“@realDonaldTrump #merylsayshi”

This hashtag is a poke at Donald Trump’s comment about Meryl Streep being the most overrated actress after the multiple Oscar winner made a memorable speech about the newly inaugurated President of the United States at this years Golden Globes awards.

Streep, in classic fashion, talked about a performance that shook her to the core and without mentioning Donald Trump by name, she blasted his mockery of a disabled reporter during his campaign trail:

But there was one performance this year that stunned me. It sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good; there was nothing good about it. But it was effective and it did its job. It made its intended audience laugh, and show their teeth. It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter. Someone he outranked in privilege, power and the capacity to fight back. It kind of broke my heart when I saw it, and I still can’t get it out of my head, because it wasn’t in a movie. It was real life. And this instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life, because it kinda gives permission for other people to do the same thing. Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. And when the powerful use their position to bully others we all lose.”

Trump realizing that he had been the target of Streep’s speech later tweeted that she was an overrated actress.

The 89th Academy Awards was not as political as the Golden Globes turned out to be, but Kimmel’s hilarious tweet did get over 100 thousand tweets within minutes of it being posted on social media. So take that.

As of now, Donald Trump has not responded.

This is what happens when people in power use that power to bully those with voices that speak out against injustice. Trump became the butt of his own joke. He can dish it out, but the question is… Can he take it?
