For those upset about Donald Trump’s recent move to suppress the information coming out of science agencies, there is an answer. Congressmen Ted Lieu and Don Beyer have created a resource to help federal employees break the communications blackout. According to a press release from Lieu.house.gov:
“The guide explains how to safely and responsibly share information, and encourages employees to “Know Your Rights” and “Know Your Options.” In the “Know Your Rights” section, federal employees can learn about which federal laws apply to them. In the “Know Your Options” section, employees can learn about how to safely disseminate information to agency inspectors general and the press.”
Anyone bolstered by the defiance of agencies such as the Badlands National Park Service or NASA will be glad to know that there are other ways of keeping federal employees informed about how to get science information to the public and to the press legally. Beyer and Lieu have made clear that this is a move to check the power of the president and to keep speaking up in time where silence is demanded.
The resource reads:
“We believe the American people have a right to know how their government works. The Trump Administration has strapped a muzzle on federal agencies and legitimate whistleblowers. Should you wish to break that silence, we want this to be a resource for the safe and responsible disclosure of information.”
