In A Beautiful Twist Of Irony, Mitch Got To Hear Coretta Scott King’s Letter After All

Mitch McConnell may not realize it just yet, but when he objected to Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren’s reading of a letter written by Coretta Scott King, he may well have launched the presidential candidacy of Warren and guaranteed himself even more headaches in the future.

Friday evening in Louisville, Kentucky, protesters gathered outside the home of the Senate Majority Leader and began reading the 1986 letter Mrs. King wrote when Jeff Sessions was nominated to serve as a federal judge.

Over 400 protesters were present for the protest, and two news Twitter hashtags were also born: #LetterToMitch and #LetLizSpeak:

What made McConnell’s objection to Warren’s reading of the letter even more galling was the fact that he didn’t have a problem with male senators reading the King letter. Sounds a bit like the Turtle Man is more than a bit sexist. Chances are he’s also afraid of Warren because he knows she has a huge national following and, should she run in 2020, would destroy either Trump or Pence, depending on which one of those two is left standing at the end of the first term.

Organizers of the Kentucky protest say they will also read the King letter outside McConnell’s home in Washington. How sweet it would be to see his ugly face as several hundred people stand outside his residence and read the letter again and again for hours on end. Mitch would have no choice but to retreat into his shell and wait for a brave Republican to save him.
