President Obama Joins The Debate, Slams Trump For Muslim Ban

Before he left office, President Obama promised he would be involved in the national debate on issues that mattered most to him, and he has now weighed in on Donald Trump’s executive order barring people from seven nations in the Middle East entering the United States.

The former president issued a statement Monday under the name of his spokesman, Kevin Lewis. It reads:

“President Obama is heartened by the level of engagement taking place in communities around the country. In his final official speech as President, he spoke about the important role of citizens and how all Americans have a responsibility to be the guardians of our democracy — not just during an election but every day.

“Citizens exercising their Constitutional right to assemble, organize and have their voices heard by their elected officials is exactly what we expect to see when American values are at stake.

“With regard to comparisons to President Obama’s foreign policy decisions, as we’ve hard (sic) before, the President fundamentally disagrees with the notion of discriminating against individuals because of their faith.”

President Obama’s comments echo remarks he made shortly after the 2015 terror attacks in Paris. At that time, some Republicans argued that only Syrian Christians should be allowed into the United States. The President responded:

“That’s not American. That’s not who we are. We don’t have religious tests to our compassion.”

No, it certainly isn’t American, but are we even sure that Donald Trump is still an American? Or has he been co-opted by Russia thanks to Vladimir Putin?

As for compassion, there’s none of that in the shriveled black cinder Trump dares to call a heart.
