President Donald Trump’s latest assault on the U.S. Constitution came Friday night in the form of yet another executive order. The order called for a “travel ban” from seven countries. The ban was enforced immediately, causing people to be detained in airports throughout the country. According to CNN, the details of the ban were not given to the Justice Department or Homeland Security.
The travel ban (aka Muslim ban) applies to the following countries:
- Iran
- Iraq
- Syria
- Sudan
- Libya
- Yemen
- Somalia
The ban has sparked national and global outrage. Protests popped up all over the country as well as around the world. Lawsuits began pouring in Saturday, and a federal judge ordered a temporary and partial block to Trump’s order. Foreign leaders from the UK, Germany, London, Canada, and Scotland all weighed in against the order. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and John McCain (R-Ariz.) both spoke out against the ban.
Even foreign diplomats stationed around the world are calling for action against the ban:
“… Dozens of Foreign Service officers and other career diplomats stationed around the world are so concerned about President Donald Trump’s new executive order restricting Syrian refugees and other immigrants from entering the United States that they are contemplating taking the rare step of sending a formal objection to senior State Department officials in Washington.”
Noticeably missing from the public outcries are the 2nd Amendment enthusiasts. Considering this issue falls into their main argument for banning or restricting gun sales, one would think that they would be at the front line of the protests. After all, banning something does not stop violent criminals, right?
“Gun bans tend to do one thing, and one thing only, very well. They make it so law-abiding citizens are not able to purchase firearms, be it for sport shooting, hunting or for personal protection. Criminals and maniacs find ways to commit atrocities regardless of what means are forbidden them.”
A ban on guns in this country will do nothing to protect us from terrorism. Likewise, a ban on people from seven Muslim countries from entering the U.S. will also have zero impact on fighting terrorism. Right-wing gun lovers will not acknowledge this, though. Not as long as they have Donald Trump and Fox News lying to them daily.
Donald Trump has gone on television to brag about his latest bullying tactics. He said that this is not a Muslim ban, but a ban on countries that pose a threat to America. He tried justifying his actions by saying that Obama did the same thing. Trump then used 9/11 as a reference to terrorist activity, yet the terrorists involved in 9/11 were all from countries not listed in the ban. Trump’s lies were exposed when his very own lapdog, Rudy Giuliani, went on Judge Jeanine Pirro’s show on Saturday and confirmed that the ban was absolutely a Muslim ban. Catching this administration in lies and watching our constitution being violated daily is infuriating. It is only going to get worse. We must not grow tired. We must continue fighting.
