Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor … NOPE. Trump Just Banned Refugees

President Donald Trump made a lot of big promises during his campaign. One of the early ones was banning Muslims from entering the country.

He has now begun implementing this plan with the executive orders he signed on Friday at the Department of Defense (DOD).

During the signing, Trump said:

“I am establishing new vetting measures to keep radical Islamic terrorists out of the United States of America. We don’t want them here.

We want to ensure that we are not admitting into our country the very threats our soldiers are fighting overseas. We only want to admit those into our country who will support our country and love deeply our people.”

Trump’s decree will suspend the entire UN refugee program for three months, and, after that time only people from countries which Trump’s administration says are “properly vetted” will be allowed to enter. No persons from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen, or Somalia are allowed to enter the United States for 90 days. He has also decreased the cap on how many refugees from 110,000 to 50,000. Syrian refugees are banned indefinitely.

The United Nations High Commission on Refugees says that only about one percent of refugees are resettled. They define a refugee as a person who:

“… Has a well-founded fear of persecution for reasons of race, religion, nationality, political opinion or membership in a particular social group.”

The President did an interview on the Christian News Network (which he should not be doing). He implied that Muslims from the region had an easier time getting into the country than Christians. He said:

“They’ve been horribly treated. Do you know if you were a Christian in Syria it was impossible, at least very tough to get into the United States? If you were a Muslim you could come in, but if you were a Christian, it was almost impossible and the reason that was so unfair, everybody was persecuted in all fairness, but they were chopping off the heads of everybody but more so the Christians. And I thought it was very, very unfair. So we are going to help them.”

The President of the United States should not be doing interviews on Christian broadcasting networks. He also shouldn’t be favoring Christians over Muslims with refugees. This is unconstitutional because our government is not supposed to favor one religion over any others.
