More Racist Attacks: Clergyman Attacked With A Bat, Racial Slur (VIDEO)

A Brooklyn man is being charged with a hate crime for using a racial slur against a Nigerian Catholic priest and then threatening him with a baseball bat. Joseph Mattarelliano, 25, approached Reverend Uriroghene Okrokoto, 28, with a bat when he was two blocks away from The Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church in Marine Park at 3:45 AM. Holding a bat, Mattarelliano shouted, “go back to the projects where you belong.” He then called the clergyman the N-word.

Found And Charged

Mattarelliano sped away in his car after berating Okrokoto – but not before Okrokoto was able to get the license plate number. The police were able to find Mattarelliano on Thursday, charging him with menacing as hate crime and weapon possession. A spokesperson for the Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church said that they are “grateful that a suspect has been arrested.”

Something like This Happened Before

There have been several racist and xenophobic attacks that were done in the name of President Donald Trump. For example, in July 2016, a man went ballistic on a New York subway train, attacking a black female passenger. The video shows a man wearing a white suit, yelling racial slurs at the woman, before screaming “Donald Trump 2016.”

How many more attacks on innocent people are going to occur in the name of our new president? Is this going to become the norm? With blatant and unrestrained racist on the rise, how long before all protections for marginalized humans are rolled back to the slavery days?

How to Protect Yourself in Trump’s America

There are many real threats now that Trump is president, especially when it comes to privacy. The president has publicly said that he is fond of tracking his “enemies,” even saying that he supports the idea of the NSA collecting metadata, despite the fact that he has a very lukewarm understanding of digital technology.

What are you doing to ensure your sanity under Trump’s presidency?
