Fact-Checking The President’s (GAG) Inauguration Speech (VIDEO)

Yesterday, we swore in President Donald Trump. Yes, writing that makes me gag, too.

He gave a very dark and pessimistic speech. The words everyone is taking away from this is “American carnage.” It makes it sound like he thinks our country is horrible. It’s about to be with him at the helm. Here are some of the lies he told in just a few minutes:

He Has A Problem With Numbers

Trump said:

“You came by the tens of millions to become part of a historic movement, the likes of which the world has never seen before.”

Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by over 2.9 million. Trump’s Inauguration crowd was a lot smaller than Obama’s Inauguration, but that doesn’t stop Trump and his fans from trying to spin reality.

Foreign Aid

Trump said:

“We’ve defended other nation’s borders while refusing to defend our own.”

According to the State Department, we’ve spent $5.65 billion on foreign military assistance. However, we spend $18 billion on border control in this country.

‘American Carnage’

Donald Trump keeps painting America as some kind of third-world nation. He talks about crime and drugs in our “inner cities.” He said that many people have to deal with:

“… The crime and the gangs and the drugs … have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential. This American carnage stops right here and stops right now.”

The violent crime rate went up 3.9 percent from 2014 to 2015. However, the rate decreased between 2011 to 2015, which is 16 percent lower than it was nine years ago.

Welfare

As FactCheck.org reported:

“He said he would ‘get our people off of welfare and back to work.’ But the welfare rolls have declined under President Obama, and they have dropped precipitously since President Clinton signed legislation in 1996 instituting work requirements and time limits.”

We will have to work hard and keep fact-checking everything Trump says for the next four years.
