In an extraordinary radio interview former congresswoman and unsuccessful presidential candidate Michele Bachmann has gone on an anti-gay rant. The radio show was Washington Watch hosted by Tony Perkins. The interview featured both the anti-gay rights activists speaking about Obama’s evil gay agenda and how much they implore President-elect Donald Trump to undo all that Obama has done for equality for the LGBT community.
Bachmann said:
“The U.S. government is telling another government that you have to have gay pride parades. That’s unbelievable. You won’t get your PEPFAR money, you won’t get your USAID money unless you follow our radical social agenda?”
Imagine thinking that wanting human rights for gay people is radical.
Imagine thinking because someone is gay, they don’t deserve to be treated with dignity, respect, or equality.
The U.S. government under Obama has never told another government that they have to have gay pride parades, they simply ask that members of LGBT community are given equal human rights.
Bachmann then claims that by asking for humane treatment of gay communities, it somehow takes away their religious freedom.
As a member of Trump’s Evangelical Advisory Board, Bachmann may have some sway when speaking with him. So far Trump’s cabinet has diminished a lot of hope for the future in relation to racial harmony, the environment, healthcare, minimum wage, planned parenthood, and many other areas. If Trump decides to repeal the huge steps forward made by Obama in the realm of same-sex marriage rights, it will be another huge step backwards.
One of the most impressive parts of Obama’s legacy was when he referred to gay people as his “brothers and sisters.” Legalizing same-sex marriage is not part of an evil agenda, it is simply and purely about achieving fair and equal rights for everyone.
LGBT people are, after all, human beings. They are brothers and sisters, they are sons and daughters, they are friends, colleagues, husbands, and wives. Bachmann obviously holds the view that they do not deserve equal rights – in the name of what? Christianity? How un-Christian of her.
With views like these it is more than disturbing that Bachmann has a direct line to the incoming president.
