Our future president continues to lie through his teeth and this time it’s about album sales.
President-elect Donald Trump hasn’t had much luck finding people to perform at his inauguration. The cringeworthy event will feature 16-year-old singer Jackie Evancho, an America’s Got Talent runner-up with nine studio albums under her belt. Three of those albums are live performances.
Back on December 14, it was announced via Twitter that Evancho would be performing at Trump’s inauguration. Now Trump himself is taking credit for her ‘skyrocketing’ album sales.

Except they didn’t.
He was referencing her current album, Someday At Christmas, which currently sits at 134 on the Billboard 200. As usual, people took to Twitter to point out Trump’s blatant lie.

Umm…just her Christmas album sales rose. Before Christmas. Then afterwards, dropped. Christmas albums sell more at Xmas.

wrong, Donald. We understand the “movement,” we just don’t support the movement.

Misogynist site Breitbart News, which is always quick to support their fascist friend, also tried to convince people that America is on board with the next administration. Last week, they claimed her sales had quadrupled since accepting Trump’s request to sing the national anthem at his nauseating shindig.
Entertainment website TMZ also suggested Evancho was experiencing a boost in sales because of Trump. An article on their site claimed that performing for the sexist man helped her career. Suggesting a strong resistance to Trump isn’t really happening, they even included the hashtag #lastlaugh.
While her album did go to number one on December 31, there’s no evidence that was a result of her agreeing to perform. Especially since it’s a holiday album that performed well during the, you guessed it, holidays.
It’s also worth noting that her performance was announced 17 days prior to going to number one. With instant communication thanks to social media, jumping to number one over two weeks later certainly doesn’t suggestion causation.
Trump is just painfully aware of the strong resistance to his looming presidency. After a long, hate-filled campaign that attacked anyone who wasn’t a white Christian man, it appears as though he’ll resort to anything just to boost his ego.
