Study: Repealing Obamacare Is Going To Cost A LOT Of Money! (VIDEO)

In 2010, President Barack Obama passed the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Among many things, it led to a government marketplace being established for health insurance and also got rid of the pre-existing condition restrictions.

The Republicans have been trying to get rid of it, and President-elect Donald Trump campaigned on the promise of “repealing and replacing” it, but they don’t have a solid plan on what to replace it with. Also, getting rid of it will cost a lot of money.

An analysis by the bipartisan organization, the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, shows that repealing the ACA in full will cost $350 billion over the next decade.

Eliminating all of the tax and fee provisions would actually save $750 billion. However, lawmakers are talking about delaying closing the health insurance exchanges, which would lower the savings to $550 billion.

These savings matter because they will need to provide tax credits, or something, to help people pay for coverage. Getting rid of the ACA will immediately kick over 20 million people off of their insurance policies. There is no way that Republicans can just kick 20 million people to the curb. They can’t possibly justify that, but they will try.

Donald Trump may have already realized this. Just a few days after the election, he said:

“Either Obamacare will be amended, or repealed and replaced.”

Doctors are warning Trump and the other Republicans that they need to have a plan in place before the get rid of the ACA. A letter from the American Medical Association (AMA) said:

“Patients and other stakeholders should be able to clearly compare current policy to new proposals so they can make informed decisions about whether it represents a step forward in the ongoing process of health reform.”

As a Wall Street Journal blog said:

“Health-care reform should be about improving health care, providing coverage, controlling costs, and improving the solvency of our existing health-care programs. It is becoming increasingly clear this will be no easy task.”

Trump and Congress need to rethink their plan to simply take it all away.
