Who Is The ‘New King’ In GOP’s Christmas Message? Twitter Has A Few Ideas (TWEETS/VIDEO)

Yesterday, the Republican National Committee (RNC) put out a very creepy Christmas message about President-elect Donald Trump.

From the message:

“Merry Christmas to all! Over two millennia ago, a new hope was born into the world, a Savior who would offer the promise of salvation to all mankind. Just as the three wise men did on that night, this Christmas heralds a time to celebrate the good news of a new King. We hope Americans celebrating Christmas today will enjoy a day of festivities and a renewed closeness with family and friends.”

This has all kinds of creepy possibilities. The use of the phrase “new King” is referring to Jesus Christ. Either they think Trump is Jesus or they think the presidency is some kind of royal right. Either way, this just shows how much the Republican Party really wants to shove religion into politics.

They didn’t use those words last year. Here is the GOP’s 2015 Christmas statement for comparison:

“Each Christmas brings a chance to rejoice at the humble birth of the Child who brings a new hope. Over two thousand years ago in Bethlehem, a Savior was born whose message is love and peace. As we gather with friends and loved ones, I want to wish a very Merry Christmas to all those who are celebrating.”

Not everyone in the Republican party was happy with this message. John Weaver, a strategist for Ohio Governor John Kasich, said:

The RNC has quickly backed off on the message of the statement. The three paragraphs do not mention Trump at all. It caused a lot of controversy on Twitter.

Here are some more reactions to the ridiculous statement:

Let’s be happy with our religious freedom while we still have it. The GOP seems to be subtly trying to shove Christianity in our faces. This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise; they put religion into their 2016 platform. They want to see our country turned into a theocracy.
