Michael Moore Promises To Pay Faithless Electors’ Fines (WATCH)

Filmmaker Michael Moore has pledged to pay the fines of faithless electors – members of the Electoral College who vote against President-elect Donald Trump despite their state’s popular vote – in order to prevent Trump from taking office.

On his Facebook page Sunday, Moore wrote:

“…Some states have made it ‘illegal’ for you to vote any other way than for Trump. If you don’t vote for him, your state will fine you $1,000 … So here’s my offer to you: I obviously can’t and won’t give you money to vote tomorrow, but if you do vote your conscience and you are punished for it, I will personally step up pay your fine which is my legal right to do.”

The Case Against Trump

Moore goes on to cite the many reasons he believes Trump should not be sworn in as President. Trump, he points out, has refused to read daily intelligence briefings, the summaries of the latest American intelligence that Presidents use to make decisions.

Moore also suggests Trump may be mentally unstable, a view echoed by some of the best psychiatrists in the country.

“I think you know something is wrong with this man. He just doesn’t seem ‘right.’ One crazy comment or action after another. He may not be well. Don’t you have a responsibility to protect us from someone who might be mentally unstable?”

Finally, Moore suggests that at the very least, the Electoral College vote should be postponed until a thorough investigation of the many instances of Russian interference in the election is complete.

Too Little, Too Late?

The electors will convene today in their respective state capitals to decide who to vote for. Most experts believe there will be few “faithless electors.”

About half a dozen Democratic electors have pushed their Republican counterparts to oppose Trump in the Electoral College. But only one Republican elector, Christopher Suprun, has pledged to vote against his party’s nominee. At least 37 electors will need to defect in order to deny Trump the presidency.
