Trump ALREADY Screwing Up Foreign Relations Over ‘One China Policy’ (VIDEO)

Just a couple of weeks after the election, President-elect Donald Trump made a foreign policy faux pas by accepting a call from Taiwanese president Tsai Ing-wen. This was the first time a United States elected official talked to the Taiwanese leadership since 1979. China, as you may imagine, was not happy.

According to Newsweek, China’s state-run Global Times newspaper reported:

“The calculating businessman might feel shrewd about seizing China’s fate by the throat through the Taiwan question. However, the truth is this inexperienced president-elect probably has no knowledge of what he’s talking about.”

If Trump tries to change Taiwan’s status, China may well “offer support, even military assistance to U.S. foes.”

An official from the right-wing Heritage Foundation told Newsweek that we could “cream them.”

Previously, the United States has followed the “One China” policy. They don’t acknowledge Taiwan as a sovereign nation.

Trump said this about it on Fox News:

“I don’t know why we have to be bound by a ‘One China’ policy unless we make a deal with China having to do with other things, including trade.”

This drew criticism from Beijing. A spokesman for China’s foreign ministry, Geng Shuang, said that if Trump turns away from the “One China” policy that:

“… The sound and steady growth of China-US relations [would be] out of the question.”

He further said:

“We urge the incoming US administration and its leaders to fully recognise the sensitivity of the Taiwan question … [and] to properly deal with Taiwan-related matters in a prudent manner so as not to disrupt or damage the overall interests of the bilateral relationship.”

Trump hasn’t even been sworn in yet, and he’s already screwing up foreign policy. After this faux pas, he appointed Iowa Governor Terry Branstad, to be the ambassador to Beijing. Branstad is considered a friend to the Chinese. Hopefully, he can help smooth this over.
